Your maternity team
They say it takes a village to raise a child. At HCH, the same concept applies to your pregnancy. These care providers coordinate to deliver an outstanding level of specialized care with warmth and compassion.
OB/GYNs
You’ll meet with each board-certified provider throughout your pregnancy journey, so you will be comfortable with anyone you may encounter during your delivery. We are committed to helping you find an OB/GYN you connect with and trust during this special journey.
Registered nurses
The backbone of our maternity team truly cares about every parent and new baby as more than patients. We can’t wait to meet the newest members of our community and watch them grow.
Pediatric hospitalists
Your baby’s health is the primary focus of NICU-trained pediatric hospitalists, who are trained in newborn and specialty care and available 24/7. They attend deliveries and collaborate closely with high-level NICU’s in the surrounding area to arrange a transfer for babies with critical needs.
Midwife
Our Certified Nursing Midwife is available to help patients explore the option of a natural birth, create a birthing plan, and be there during labor and delivery.
Maternity navigator
Our full-time Maternity Navigator helps guide you through our pregnancy journey starting with prenatal and breastfeeding classes. Once your baby is born, she is there to provide lactation counseling during your stay and after you leave the hospital.
Education
Prenatal classes
Sufficient prenatal education is proven to increase the likelihood of a healthy birth weight and optimal wellness in newborns, as well as the health of the mother postpartum. Our prenatal class prepares you for labor, delivery, and postpartum care. Check out our events calendar for the latest information about upcoming maternity events for new moms and moms-to-be.

Breastfeeding support
Breastfeeding is recommended to allow your baby to receive the best nutrients in the first six months. Our comprehensive class covers techniques, benefits, and insurance coverage for pumps. A feeding support group meets twice a month.
FAQs about maternity care
Every pregnancy is different, and high-risk pregnancies can vary in extremities. It will depend on your medical history. For most high-risk pregnancies, we can care for you up until 34 weeks.
Being a Baby-Friendly Hospital means that we provide a high level of care surrounding infant feeding and mother-baby bonding. HCH is one of 17 hospitals in Indiana with the Baby-Friendly accreditation. Learn more about this accreditation at https://www.babyfriendlyusa.org/
The first ultrasound is usually performed when you are 8 to 12 weeks pregnant. The 20-week ultrasound is particularly important as it serves as the anatomy scan, during which the ultrasound technician will check for any irregularities in the baby’s development. This is also the appointment where you can often learn the baby’s gender.
We have you meet all our providers so you and our providers are comfortable with each other before delivery.
Four is the maximum number of people, and there are no age restrictions.
For the safety of our patients, we currently do not allow you to deliver vaginally after a previous C-section.
If you call the OB/GYN office phone number (765-521-1217), you will be redirected to a triage nurse who will be able to answer your questions. If it is an emergency, call 911 or visit our emergency room.
