Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Henry Community Health’s cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program provides a variety of services for patients with heart or lung conditions, including exercise training, disease-based education, nutritional counseling, emotional support, and behavior interventions.
HCH cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs are conducted in our office at Forest Ridge Medical Pavilion and are offered three days a week for one hour each day.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program
Classes include monitored exercise using individualized exercise prescription and education programs. You will also be given the opportunity to meet with a respiratory therapist and a registered dietitian. Throughout treatment, you may:
- Exercise using a treadmill, bike or other cardio equipment
- Be monitored by a nurse or another healthcare professional for a change in symptoms
- Start slowly following a safe exercise program that will gradually help you to become stronger
- Gradually move into a more intensive program that lets you work longer and harder, building endurance. Possibly begin strength training if allowed by your provider
- Have your heart rate and rhythm monitored, blood pressure and oxygen levels checked and reported to your provider
HCH provides a well-supervised program, three days a week for up to 12 weeks, in an outpatient setting. Classes are conducted by qualified exercise science specialists and nursing staff. Each program is geared specifically to a patient’s short- and long-term goals.
Conditions
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation can help with a variety of conditions. It may be beneficial if you or a loved one has experienced a cardiac event, wear/use oxygen, experience shortness of breath and/or weakness and have any of the following:
- Coronary angioplasty with or without stent
- Coronary bypass surgery
- Heart transplant
- Heart valve repair or replacement
- Myocardial infarction (within the past 12 months)
- Stable angina pectoris

FAQs about cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
The cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program consists of classes three days a week for up to 12 weeks, held on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Classes are held at various times so you can choose which one works best for you.
Yes. Phase 2 of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is usually covered by most insurances – however, it is dependent on the type of insurance. Our staff will assist you in understanding coverage and informing you prior to starting out of pocket costs such as co-pay / co-insurance.
Wear comfortable clothing, comfortable shoes for walking, and exercise. We will provide a towel and water.
We are located at 2200 Forest Ridge Parkway, Suite 210, in the rehabilitation services department.
Upon completing the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program with our instructors and nursing staff, you will have the opportunity to participate in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase 3.
Phase 3 is an open gym for patients to come in and have blood pressure checked by staff prior/post to exercise. Exercise is self lead using all equipment, bands and weight. Staff is available for questions and support as needed.
Phase 3 is NOT covered by insurance. It is a one time purchase* of 15-1 hour sessions for $50.00.
*exceptions for certain diagnosis or physician orders
You do not need a referral to participate in this program, but most insurances do require one. Please be sure to check with your insurance company to see what is required for you.
