Vertiflex Superion®
The Vertiflex Superion® implant is a revolutionary device that has proven highly effective in treating lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Part of what makes it so innovative is the fact that it is an outpatient procedure that relieves pain originating in your back. It helps to bridge the gap between more conservative treatment options that may provide only temporary relief and invasive surgery that can require a long and difficult recovery period.
To learn more about the Vertiflex procedure and to determine if it may be the right treatment option for you, contact us at our Interventional Spine and Pain office or visit www.Pain.com.

Lumbar spinal stenosis
The Vertiflex procedure is ideal for anyone who suffers from lumbar spinal stenosis. The common symptoms of this condition include:
- Aching dull back pain that may radiate to your legs
- Decreased endurance, especially during physical activity
- Numbness and/or tingling in your legs, calves, or buttocks
- Weakness or problems balancing
A quick “test” for this condition is to start in a standing position and then bend over. If you feel relief from your pain, then you may be struggling with this condition. It is caused by a narrowing of the spinal canal which can then pinch the nerves in your back. Of course, you should always consult your provider for an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.
How does the procedure work?
The Vertiflex Superion® implant is so effective because it mimics the relief you experience from bending over. It creates a gap that opens the spinal canal to relieve pressure on the nerves. This means you won’t have to rely on tricks to feel better because the implant provides ongoing relief, effectively cushioning your vertebrae.
Placement
A small spacer is placed in the spine, targeting the root cause of your pain, without having to remove any nearby bone or tissue.
Activation
Once inserted, the spacer’s arms open around the spinous processes (the bumps you can feel in your spine) to help make proper space for the
affected nerves.
Relief
The spacer preserves the space in the spine, which keeps pressure off the nerves and relieves the pain and discomfort you have been feeling in your
back and legs.
